2008 course descriptions
Ryan and Steve took a few test runs on the 2008 course earlier tonight while carrying a GPS. Below are the stats from Ryan's GPS...Steve's recorded a very slightly longer course, probably due to taking more outside turns. We'll run a few more laps and see how it averages out. Just a test run, so we weren't timing, especially since Steve didn't have a light and Ryan's PBR chug tonight was an embarrassment. (Although he did record a 13-second chug earlier in the week.)
Note that the standard course is mostly flat (37.6%) and the PBR shortcut has more descending (39.2%, not including falling on your face). And we've met our goal of a mile-long course, finally.
Sorry, no posting of the Google Earth map...FSX is still invite-only, and a satellite map would pretty much put an end to that...
Standard course
Distance: 1.01 miles
Elevation gain: 131 feet
Elevation loss: [/b]140 feet
Percent climbing: 26.1 (.26 miles)
Percent descending: 36.3 (.37 miles)
Percent flat: 37.6 (.38 miles)
Steepest climbing grade: 16.8%
Steepest descending grade: 17.3%
PBR shortcut
Distance: .97 miles
Elevation gain: 125 feet
Elevation loss: [/b]136 feet
Percent climbing: 26.3 (.25 miles)
Percent descending: 39.2 (.38 miles)
Percent flat: 34.5 (.33 miles)
Steepest climbing grade: 14.2%
Steepest descending grade: 22%

Dry FSX. I guarantee it.
It will not rain during FSX on Thursday. It just won't.
I spent quite a bit of time with the sun gods this year and earned myself some pull in the weather department. I couldn't work a deal to secure a completely rain-free day, but I have the sign-off that the showers will be over by the time we light the fire before Race 1.
Riders will race free of rain. I guarantee it.
Oh, you're welcome.
Other fun stats to add to course description...
Feet of caution tape used: 10,000
Number of step-in stakes used: 302
Number of PBR cans in trees: 37 (so far)
Number of Christmas lights strung in pines: 169 (so far)
Number of people who've pre-ridden the course: 26 (as of 4:35 on 10-7)
