I made a lot of new friends out there in these past 11 weeks and feel like I'm part of something special here in Emmaus even if it was slogging around a goat pen in pelting rain and stinky crap mud half drunk (OK, 2/3 drunk) on PBR.

Thanks to Bill and Beth for putting in all the time and effort to make this such a cool thing and thanks for letting me come to your house each Thursday night.

This Thursday is the final night of the 2008 edition of Fifth Street Cross. As in previous years, the last night of racing will be followed by a celebration to 11 fun weeks where we'll hand out awards for overall and Top 20 racers. A few year's ago we outgrew our sunporch and now we've outgrown the warmth of SMC, so this year's after-party will be at the VFW (aka Owl's Club; 316 Main) just across from the bike shop in Emmaus.

Just after the last bell is rung and final PBR is chugged, we'll ...

Well, tonight is the last night of 5th ST X and some of us have to work and will miss the festivities... It was an honor to be a part of such a thing and can't thank you enough for allowing me to partake in such a local blast... I did however come away with a few things that may help me through life and thought I would share them with everyone:

1. HOLY SHIT AM I SLOW... ( ok I knew that, but this really rubbed it in...)

Rebellion rarely is easy. But I just wanted to say out loud (again) that ugly sweater parties are old, cliche, self-conscious, and have totally jumped the tank. FSX is cooler than imitating what hipsters in Red Hook were doing four years ago, or what college kids in Minnesota are creating facebook pages about. The intended irony is too obvious. Just say no.

As my proof, I simply offer the following lazy trend pieces written by various newspapers, magazines, and blogs. You know that when ...

What's the one thing you've always been able to count on since the beginning of FSX?

A. Robi and Plunkett will consume a ridiculous amount of beer.

B. Jaime will be horny.

C. Belgian Night wins Best Night of the Year honors.

D. There will be mud in every room and orifice.

E. Someone will make the walk up the driveway to retrieve their drunken significant other.

F. Topher will bring cheese.

G. The Pearsons will be seated by the fire, heckling racers throughout the night.

Sorry for the run-on of numbers. I can't get the file in chart form easily. And my time is better used getting everyone's multipliers figured out before tomorrow.

Some of the more interesting calculations using the Season and Surprise multipliers:

Bowman is still ahead of Yozell...but only by 3 points

Jamie and Topher are tied for 3rd place with 46.5 points--and both are one PBR away from another .5 deficit

Robi's 6-point PBR "payment" takes his multiplier to 2

Since the newly installed cobbles were such an enormous hit for Belgian Night last week, we've decided to make them a permanent part of FSX. This has nothing to do with no one wanting to tear the cobbles back out of the ground. Really.

In other course news, I just finished repairing tape and stakes from last week's slip-n-slide. Along the way, I did a bit of rerouting in an attempt to use the least muddy and rutted sections. The side yard is now re-rerouted back to its original path after ...

This week's forecast says rainy and 55 degrees on Wednesday. Freezing overnight and only hitting a high of 30 on Thursday. What that tells me is that it's a pretty perfect scenario to roll the course when it's nice and sloppy soft, then it'll freeze overnight and leave us with a frozen, fast, smooth FSX course for Belgium Night.

I'm all into rolling as much of the course as I can, but I know from last year that there are some uphill sections that even a farmgirl from Indiana struggles with. ...

1. How many national champions (in any cycling discipline) have ridden FSX?

2. Who are the oldest and youngest riders ever to compete at FSX?

3. Was Army Jay really in the Army?

4. Who rode the very first night of Fifth Street Cross (in 2003)?

Each Top 20 = 1.5 points

Each Top 10 = 2 points

Each Top 5 = 2.5 points

Each Top 3 = 3 points

Each Win = 4 points
