a solution
To bring all the constituencies and various hipsters at their various levels together, I suggest a compromise. How about we make the apres-cross event an:
Ugly Sausage Fest
Or, I suppose, to promote equality, an Ugly Box Social
Once, again, though, I must make you aware I can't supply the ugly.

Stop the Trend!
steak wrote:As my proof, I simply offer the following lazy trend pieces written by various newspapers, magazines, and blogs. You know that when this many sources identify a trend that it's no longer cool.
The East Penn Press was way ahead of the curve when it covered FSX two or three years ago. And now I hear that Embrocation Magazine is doing a big write-up on how underground backyard cyclocross is the big trend now. Perhaps that means we should end it. Oh wait, we are.

Are you calling Embrocation magazine "lazy?"
If so, I'll need to cancel my tshirt order.

Stop the Hate; Feel the Love
Actually, I think this is all very much like when teenagers are getting ready to head off to college and everyone in the family is fighting because the separation from those you love so dearly will be easier if you're all slamming doors and shrieking. We're all sad that FSX is going away. So to make the last night easier we've devolved into this public mudbath. It's touching, really. I love you all, too.

Re: Ugly Sweater backlash
OK, lets get one thing straight..."Hipster Cool" is a total oxymoron. Anyone that tries as hard as a hipster can not even be remotely cool. Cool comes from within, not without.
Cool is James Dean
Cool is 60's Elvis
Cool is George Clooney
Cool is Tom Boonen
Cool is NOT wearing horn-rimmed glasses, tweed blazers, listening to garage bands until they're signed and thus wayyyy too corperate, and lastly, being constantly self-depricating.
Total random footnote. You can thank me for the first FSX article. I recommended it to Steph when she said something like "Shit, I need a topic for a story by Tuesday. Do you have any ideas? I don't care how lame they are, the East Penn Press will print anything."

Apparently folks have been doing backyard cross for years. Does that make it vintage? More importantly, how long until ugly sweaters are a throwback and ironic again?
