Race Multiplier madness

It is quite possible that no one except Bill, Beth, Brad, and Bowman will be interested in what follows.

After spending a few minutes noodling with last night's results and Bill's multiplier formulas, I am prepared to prognosticate.

The final scoring will be tight, but folks who have Bowman on their fantasty teams (think of rotisserie baseball--please) need team Liquiagas to do something magical next week. Or for Brad to have a mechanical or something.

After last night's action both men were deadlocked with 68 final multiplier points! Bowman held a slim lead in GC points: 3505 to 3417. But critically, Brad goes into next week's race with a 12 multiplier, while Bowman enters with his coveted jersey and a less coveted 5 multiplier. That means:

-If Brad gets more final multiplier points, he wins.

-If Brad and Bowman wind up with an equal number of multiplier points, then Brad wins.

-If Bowman gets one more final multiplier point than Brad, Brad still wins.

-If Bowman gets three or more final multiplier points than Brad, Bowman wins.

-The excitement is if Bowman gets exactly two more multiplier points than Brad--say Bowman gets two seconds while Brad gets a first and top 20. In that case it would come down to how many points they score next week in their two races. It is mathematically possible that even PBRs could impact the final tally. And one point in the second race could make a difference. In the multiplier scenario I listed above--where Bowman earns 8 multiplier points and Brad 6--you can see the fine margin if you forecast Bowman can nail down 45 points at the "Superbowl of Cross." In this case, if Brad gets 34 race points he loses..and if he gets 35 he wins by a hair (or a case of PBR).

Amazing, right!

Makes the BCS calculations look easy...With that said, is there a way I can "back in" to the championship like my alma mater? This "multiplier" mumbo-jumbo is just ridiculous. When Brad can't figure out the math and we're counting on Steak to figure out all the "possibilites", WTF have we come to? Complicated calculations no one can comprehend?
I vote that we simplify.

A few comments, all stating the obvious.

1. The mumbo jumbo is intended. The scoring is a joke, and we're all in on it.

2. Bowman is funny when he's pissed off. Or maybe he is pissed off when he is funny. I'm not sure.

3. The underlying idea of the final multiplier isn't that wacky, giving a higher weighted value to winning. That is the rationale for scoring in points races. And if you look at the tally below it seems to me that Brad and Bowman have staged quite a close competition. Way to go dudes!

4. If you can't count on me to do the math, then I have absolutely no value to cross at all. I guess I can man a beer station during the backwards race, but that's about it.

I vote you DON'T shut up. I find this banter highly entertaining. On Thursday, we think about racing.

I completely agree with Beth, as I am loving the banter as well! I find it amazing that Steak can come up with so many different variables, which I find highly useful as a spectator.

Brad's gonna double flat and Bowman's gonna drink too much (I'm not sure how, but it's gonna happen!)
